"I began working out at Noonan Sport Specialists in mid-March of 2014. I was 63 years old at that time and had never been able to maintain a consistent exercise regimen. Walking, jogging, light weights, exercise bike, Nordic Track machine – I had tried all of these, but, other than one nine-month period, my efforts were sporadic and usually lasted but a few days. As a result, I was overweight, out of shape, and had poor eating habits as well. My annual physicals ended with the same advice from my doctor: exercise, lose some weight, and lower the cholesterol intake.
My son, Steve Reishus, is a coach at Noonan Sport Specialists. I was aware of some of the programs that were offered, but didn’t think seriously of enrolling. If I couldn’t motivate myself to exercise at home, I couldn’t imagine driving somewhere to work out. The time commitment and the cost of having a personal trainer, combined with my inconsistent exercise history, persuaded me it would never work.
But when a couple of guys I knew died from heart attacks, I decided I had to do something. So, with my wife’s support and encouragement, I enrolled at Noonan’s. And the factors that had caused me to question enrolling, time commitment and cost, turned out to be great motivators for me not only in showing up for my sessions, but also in dealing with poor eating habits.
Here is what surprised me about training at Noonan Sport Specialists: it’s fun! Having a coach who helps you establish appropriate goals, designs a program for you, teaches you how to do the exercises properly, monitors how you feel, and pours on lots of encouragement is fun! It’s also fun because of the camaraderie you experience with the staff and other people who are working out at Noonan’s. There is lots of encouragement and lots of laughter.
I have just completed my sixth month of training. I have lost 20 pounds. I have gained strength and flexibility. I have gained self-confidence. (It is such a good feeling to have made progress and to have achieved goals that I set.) I have met new people and have the joy of sharing something in common with them. I heartily recommend Noonan Sport Specialists."
