Walking...Is It Worth It?

Staying healthy and fit and reaching weight loss goals require maintaining a healthy LIFESTYLE.

A great way to do this is by adding a daily walk into your week or maybe just starting with walking on the weekends, then working your way up.

Many benefits come from simply walking 10-30 minutes a day, and yes, just 10 minutes can benefit you (question answered!)

It might be taking a stroll to the mailbox, around the block, or practicing parking in the back of the parking lot wherever you go!

Many studies have shown just how beneficial walking is physically and mentally.

Physical benefits
  • Burn body fat and build muscle

  • Reduce the risk of chronic diseases

  • Elevate fitness and cardiac health

  • Reduce stress and improve posture

  • Improve circulation, muscle endurance, balance, and coordination

  • Great exercise as an active recovery day

Mental benefits
  • Improve attentiveness and self-confidence

  • Relieve anxiety and depression – sometimes it helps to get out of your head and take time to get fresh air!

  • Increase energy levels, mood, memory, and sleep

  • Boost creativity – maybe you’re stuck and unable to think effectively through projects. Walking allows you to engage in activity while letting the mind wander, boosting creative thoughts!

These may seem like big claims, but with consistency, 10-30 minutes daily can allow you to experience each of these benefits.

Challenge yourself to start with just 10 minutes a day to get out and walk, especially with warm weather FINALLY here!

Also, this is a great time to listen to podcasts, books, or music or simply take in nature and your surroundings! Take this time to focus on yourself and grow. Maybe include your friends / family and use this time to catch up on a regular basis!

See you on the trail!
