New Year's Resolutions - Will you be in the 8%?


These three words are a hotly debated subject this time of year, and mean different things for many people. For some it is a chance to start fresh and put the previous year's struggles behind them, others it is a time to lock in new goals and change old habits. Or for those of you regular gym goers it may mostly mean a gym full of new faces.

In a 2014 University of Scranton study it was reported that 45% of people frequently, and 17% infrequently, make New Year's Resolutions. However, of this 62% approximately only 8% of us will be successful in achieving our resolutions this year.

With statistics like this, at the end of the day, exactly what you are planning is not nearly as important as you actually DOING IT. #takeaction

Don’t "try it". Don’t dabble in it. Don’t do some of this, and some of that.

DO IT....whatever your IT is!

Meaning act on your resolution in the way it was meant to be done. At least for the first time.

When you have followed a workout, training plan, nutrition plan, or cleanse the way it is prescribed, front to back, this is when you have the right to definitively say to yourself. “Ok, this is what I can expect when I do (above stated IT) at this time”.

The results may differ as your training age, experience, strengths and weaknesses change over time, but right now, this is how it affects me...for better or for worse.

Looking specifically at training, here is a nice little metaphor - "Plan the hunt, hunt the hunt, evaluate the hunt. Rinse and repeat."

If you are going to start it…finish it!

If you are going to try something new in 2015 (which is super awesome, we want you to!) it's important to follow the plan to the letter. Now, after you have finished said plan, you can evaluate the results.

If you don’t like what you see, or if there is something you think needs to change, THEN look back at what you did (which you can in detail because you followed the plan remember!) and go from there.

So whether 2015 is a fresh start, breaking of poor habits, or a time of new goals remember this... take action on your plan, do it the way it is intended, finish it, and then review (and celebrate) it once completed - you are in the 8%!
