5 Reasons Why Women Should Strength Train (pt. 2)
Today we want to throw gasoline on that concept and list ANOTHER 5 reasons why strength and resistance training is beneficial to women especially.
#1 Improve athletic performance.
Strength training improves athletic ability in all but the very elite athletes. Whatever sport or activity that you participate in, strength training has been shown to improve overall performance as well as decrease your risk of injury.
#2 Reduce your risk of heart disease.
Strength training improves cardiovascular health by lowering bad cholesterol, increasing good cholesterol, and lowering blood pressure.
#3 Reduce your risk of diabetes.
Strength training can improve the way the body processes sugar and increase glucose utilization.
#4 Reduce your risk of injury, back pain and arthritis.
Strength training not only builds stronger muscles, but also builds stronger connective tissues and increases joint stability. This acts as reinforcement for the joints and may help reduce injury.
#5 Strength training has no age.
Women in their 60’s, 70's, and 80's have built up significant strength through weight training and studies show that strength improvements are possible at any age.
