Omega 3’s are types of fatty acids. There are a number of different types but the 2 most important are EPA and DHA – the types that are commonly found in fish.
Omega 6's are another type of fatty acid that is found in vegetable oils, and in general are more easily accessible.
In general we have an imbalance of Omega 3's to Omega 6's, close to 1:500 when a ratio of 1:2 is recommended.
Another difference between Omega 3’s and 6’s are Omega 3’s are considered an anti-inflammatory while Omega 6’s cause the inflammation. So you will often hear that Omega 3’s are good for joint health.
Best thing yet is there are TONS of studies out of the positive effects of EPA/DHA and what it can help do for our body including improving the function of our immune and cardiovascular systems.
Studies have also shown increases in brain function along with hair, skin, and nail health with supplementation of Omega 3’s too!
