5 Lessons I've Learned From Dustin And Mike On Building More Confidence.
I am coming up on 2 years at NSS, crazy to think about!
Often I find myself looking back at my first day here and am ASTONISHED over and over again at how much I have learned and where I am today, especially in terms of confidence.
A lot of this is thanks to Mike, Dustin and their patience.
I say this because you don’t know how many times Mike has stuck me in front of a
camera and I just stood there FROZEN.
How many times Dustin has asked me to role play teaching an exercise and I stumbled over every word that came out of my mouth, even though in my head I knew exactly what to do.
These things still happen, they just happen less and less thanks to these 5 things….
#1 The faster you can get comfortable being who you are, the more confidence you will exude.
BOOM - Just that, who you are is the reason why you are in this or that situation, so OWN IT!
#2 You don’t know what you don’t know
Most of us go through life doing things like public speaking, parenting, or cooking to the best of our abilities at that time in our life.
We might look back years later thinking, “WHAT WAS I DOING!” Except you were doing that with the best intentions and information that you had at that time.
Which brings me to my next lesson...
#3 DO ALL OF THE THINGS - Developing takes time.
Do something like volunteer to speak at your next meeting, especially if it makes your skin crawl with how uncomfortable you could be. When it’s all said and done, you will still be alive, and OKAY!
The more you experience either successes or mistakes, the more you will learn.
#4 When you receive a compliment, BELIEVE IT!
Mike, brought this one up and it kind of surprised me because I find myself doing the same thing at times!
Next time you receive a compliment don’t sluff it off like they just said it to be nice.
ACCEPT IT, they wouldn’t have said anything if they didn’t mean it. Let that compliment shut down your little inner voice telling you this or that isn’t good enough.
#5 Surround yourself with those that RADIATE the confidence you are wanting to emulate.
I am lucky enough to work with 7 unquestionably confident people. Every single one of them having their own little sparkle that they share with me. It also drives me to take myself to the next level every day.
Next time you're not feeling like the best you. I want you to think back to this blog post and remember, you are a work in progress, and every experience molds you.
In 2 years you will be a totally different person too!
