2018 TRAIN and STAY Get Away Recap
The weekend of October 12-14th, 2018 marked our 8th year taking clients up to the Duluth area for the TRAIN and STAY Get Away and we can certainly say it didn't disappoint.
What a great group that took part! Three of whom we term "veterans" (those who have been along before) and two "newbies" (the first timers).
We hopped in what was to be our transport vehicle for the weekend, a big and comfy 12 passenger van for the 3 hour voyage to our weekend lodging.
Upon arriving at the quiet little cabin on Little Hanging Horn Lake everyone found their rooms and set to head to Carlton for our first run and hike along the St. Louis River on the outskirts of Jay Cooke State Park.
Dinner that night consistent of some classic "carb loading" for the next day followed by Betty teaching us how to play Trains with dominoes, a TRAIN and STAY first, and likely a new staple going forward.
Saturday morning came early and we were greeted by a beautiful 35 degree day to tackle Ely's Peak and enjoy what might be the most impressive spot to catch a sunrise in Minnesota.
A few hours on the Superior Hiking Trail had everyone in good spirits but also ready for a bit of "down time" at the cabin to recharge with some reading, a nap, or whatever they pleased.
Saturday afternoon we journeyed the 5 minutes to Moose Lake State Park and spent some time exploring what they have to offer in a light mist. From the Echo Lake Trail to the Tall Pines Loop we were able to see a mix of colorful trees and wildlife.
Saturday evening another new TRAIN and STAY tradition was cemented in...Poor Gary's Pizza. The local pizza joint helped us fuel our bodies and fill our bellies! A rousing few hours of Farkel and hanging out with the group capped off our evening.
Sunday morning was a quick drive up to Midway Road to cruise around on Seven Bridges Road, a great mix of Superior Hiking Trail and mountain bike paths had us weaving along, around and through Mission Creek for 90 minutes.
This final excursion marked the end of what was another successful TRAIN and STAY Get Away. Everyone (THANK YOU Joseph, Lynn, Sabrina, Jody, and Betty!) who came along did an amazing job and helped to make 2018 what it was...fun from the first minute all the way through the last.
